Scott Smith CPA/PFS, CFP®, CGMA
Scott’s wide experience serving Fortune 100 financial service companies to households below the poverty-line allows him an uncommonly broad perspective into the world of finance.
Starting as a teenage bookkeeper and individual tax return preparer gave him his first taste of the value of good financial advice.
While studying at BYU-Idaho, where he would graduate with Bachelors degrees in Accounting and Business Management with an Emphasis in Finance, Scott advanced to preparing pass-through business tax returns and got a taste of the venture capital world - a form of private equity financing that is typically invested in early-stage startups and small businesses that have long-term growth potential.
Furthering his studies at The Ohio State University where he would graduate with a Masters in Accounting, his elective courseload was stuffed with finance and tax classes. Fully exploring his nerdiness, he even competed on the university tax team and participated in investing competitions alongside MBA and PhD candidates.
He put all this education to work in Washington D.C. where he worked for an international accounting firm serving financial service companies during the financial crisis. There he saw first-hand how publicly traded corporations made investment and tax decisions and how those decisions ultimately affected average U.S. households.
In time, Scott decided to return to Idaho where he felt more passionate about working with individuals and closely-held businesses as a partner in a CPA firm. He still practices as a CPA.
In 2019, after tinkering for years on a robust financial planning model and portfolio construction, he started Alloy Financial Services as a fee-only, fiduciary-focused, independent Registered Investment Advisor. Because of his heavy tax and business consulting background, Scott caters to entrepreneurs and small business owners looking for financial plans that incorporate their core businesses, but diversify their wealth beyond their everyday operations.
Scott holds multiple designations including Certified Financial Planner®, Certified Public Accountant, Personal Financial Specialist, and Chartered Global Management Accountant.
In addition to dozens of continuing educations courses taken each year, Scott also completed the Yale School of Management CIMA (Certified Investment Management Analyst) education course.
